DescriptionX-33: Lockheed Martin Suborbital Spaceplane Contractor's Model. A wooden contractor's model from Lockheed Martin measuring approximately 9" long, with an 8" wingspan, and 5" tall while sitting upon custom stand. The X-33 was developed for NASA in the 1990's as part of the Space Launch Initiative program. The desire was to build a craft that could reach Earth orbit in a single stage. If a single-stage-to-orbit craft proved successful the hope was that the X-33 would be the first commercial spacecraft. Unfortunately, due to design issues and a decline in demand for commercial satellites, the project was cancelled in 2001. Some light toning and scratching throughout consistent with age. Overall very fine.
