    "Bless you my dear, Mother"

X-15: Viola Armstrong Handwritten Congratulatory Postcard, January 18, 1962, to Neil Armstrong upon a Successful Flight Directly from The Armstrong Family Collection™, CAG Certified. A standard government 5¢ Air Mail postcard, postmarked at Wapakoneta, addressed to "Mr. & Mrs. Neil A. Armstrong" at Littlerock, California. Armstrong's mom writes in blue ink (in part): "Wed night/ Dear ones-/ Congratulations on a good flight today! G G & Pa Pa were here... we saw your plane and heard the comments from Don Wayne on TV. At the same time Paul Harvey was on radio & also mentioned you... I'm so happy that the flight was a success!! Bless you my dear. Mother".

The flight she mentions took place on January 17 with a purpose of evaluating the MH-96 system. It was the first time Armstrong flew past Mach 5 (Mach 5.1) and above 100,000 feet (133,000). It traveled 223 miles in less than eleven minutes! Neil said of this flight "I think it went pretty much on plan." He may have been nonchalant about it, but his mom was thrilled and bursting with pride at her son's accomplishment. A great personal memento that he saved for the rest of his life. One crease, fine. Sealed in a numbered archival sleeve, CAG 1000142-001. This lot will include a Statement of Provenance signed by Neil Armstrong's sons, Rick and Mark.
