Description
X-15: Neil Armstrong's Personal Copy of a Six-page Honeywell Memorandum Regarding the MH-96 Simulator Tests, October 4, 1960, Directly From The Armstrong Family Collection™, CAG Certified. Six dittographed single-sided pages from A. J. Bailey regarding "Pilot Evaluation of the MH-96 in the NAA Simulator" with this copy sent to Armstrong bearing a handwritten note: "Please circulate & discuss among NASA pilots. Will call you. Jim Bailey". The memo is a summary of comments made by X-15 pilots on a questionnaire.Armstrong was instrumental in the development and testing of the Honeywell MH-96 adaptive gain flight control system for high altitude flights out of the atmosphere. It was designed to automatically blend the aerodynamic and reaction controls, compensating for the reduction in effectiveness of the controls as altitude increased. The first flight test was by Armstrong on April 20, 1962, on X-15 #3 and it went well. An interesting piece of X-15 history. Pages lightly toned and tattered, overall fine. Sealed in six numbered archival sleeves, CAG 1000130-003, 1000130-004, 1000130-005, 1000130-006, 1000130-007, & 1000130-008. This lot will include a Statement of Provenance signed by Neil Armstrong's sons, Rick and Mark.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.View More Testimonials
