Women in Space: Collection of Seventeen Sterling Silver Unflown
Robbins Medallions from Space Shuttle Missions, Directly from the
Family Collection of Astronaut David Griggs, with Letter of
Certification. Nineteen years after the first astronaut group
had been selected in 1959, NASA chose its first female astronauts
as a part of Group 8 in 1978. This collection includes Robbins
Medallions from the first (June 18, 1983, STS-7) and second flight
of Sally Ride, the first female astronaut in space. It also
contains the only flight of the first African-American woman in
space, Mae Jemison (Sept 12, 1992, STS-4). Also included are
flights of distinguished female shuttle astronauts Shannon Lucid,
Rhea Seddon, Kathryn Sullivan (first spacewalk of American woman),
Mary Cleave, Ellen Baker, Marsha Ivins, Linda Godwin, and Susan
