Description
Wernher von Braun Initialed and Notated 1966 Memo with Original 1963 Photo. Two interesting items from the "father of rocket science," as follows.Memo: One typed 8" x 10.25" page titled "NOTES 6-13-66 Stuhlinger". Initialed at top "B 6/17" by von Braun and also initialed by Stuhlinger. Discussion points include the Pegasus Program, AAP- Earth Orbit, and Lunar Exploration. The final topic has an interesting and early time schedule for Apollo: "The current MSF plan, recently resubmitted to the Bureau of the Budget, reflects four AAP lunar orbital missions starting in 1969 and ending in 1975, and five AAP lunar surface missions starting in 1970 and ending in 1975. This is very close to our own inhouse planning for lunar exploration flights." Various checkmarks and underlines in pencil. Originally from the personal collection of Ernst Stuhlinger. Fine.
Photo: A 7.75" x 10.5" B&W glossy photo of von Braun with a press caption of: "1963 - Dr. von Braun is presented with front page of Huntsville Time announcing the launching of the first U.S. earth orbit satellite, Explorer I, and the occasion was the 5th anniversary of Explorer." On the back is von Braun's personal stamp (twice) and "Property of Alabama Space & Rocket Center." This was given by von Braun to Doris Hunter, a trusted associate at the center and comes with a signed certificate from her grandson as to history and authenticity. Fine.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.View More Testimonials
