    A piece of aviation history

    United States World War II Army Air Forces Model A-11 Leather Flying Helmet Signed by Nineteen Legendary Aviators. A size medium helmet with a tag inside that reads: "TYPE A-11 / SPECIFICATION 3189 / SIZE-MEDIUM / STOCK NO. 8300-396015 / CONT. No. W33-038AC-3172 / THE SELBY SHOE CO. / PROPERTY, A.F. U.S. ARMY". The following aviators have signed this helmet, all in silver felt tip:

    BUZZ ALDRIN: Astronaut, Gemini 12 and Apollo 11 where he was the second moonwalker.
    ALAN BEAN: Astronaut, Apollo 12 where he was the fourth moonwalker, Skylab II (SL-3).
    FRANK BORMAN: Astronaut, Gemini 7 and Apollo 8 where he commanded the first manned mission to the moon.
    CHARLES CONRAD: Astronaut, Gemini 5, Gemini 11, Apollo 12 where he was the third moonwalker, Skylab I (SL-2).
    GORDON COOPER: Mercury Seven astronaut, Mercury-Atlas 9, Gemini 5.
    BOB CRIPPEN: Astronaut, STS-1, STS-7, STS-41-C, and STS-41-G.
    SCOTT CROSSFIELD: Test pilot, the first to fly at Mach 2, the first to fly the X-15, total of 30 X-15 flights.
    CHARLIE DUKE: Astronaut, Apollo 16 where he was the tenth moonwalker.
    JOE ENGLE: Test pilot where he flew the X-15 22 times. Astronaut, ALT, STS-2, and STS-51-I.
    PETE EVEREST: WWII and Vietnam combat pilot, test pilot where set the world altitude record and the world speed record, flew the X-1, X-1B, X-2 and many others.
    SLICK GOODLIN: Test pilot where he was the second Bell X-1 test pilot and the first to operate it in powered flight.
    RICHARD GORDON: Astronaut, Gemini 11, Apollo 12 on which he was the Command Module Pilot.
    FRED HAISE: Astronaut, Apollo 13 where he would have walked on the moon, ALT
    JAMES McDIVITT: Astronaut, Gemini 4, Apollo 9, Manager of Lunar Landing Operations at NASA.
    EDGAR MITCHELL: Astronaut, Apollo 14 where he was the sixth moonwalker.
    DICK RUTAN: Fighter pilot, test pilot, aviator who piloted the first non-stop unrefueled
    around-the-world flight.
    TOM STAFFORD: Astronaut, Gemini 6A, Gemini 9A, Apollo 10m, Apollo-Soyuz Test Project.
    RICHARD TRULY: Astronaut, ALT, STS-2, STS-8, NASA Administrator.
    CHUCK YEAGER: Flying ace, test pilot, the first man to break the sound barrier.

    Quite a few of the above-mentioned signers, even among the astronauts, wore a similar helmet at some early point in their careers. An amazing assemblage of signatures, literally a museum piece. Think long and hard before you pass this one up. Honest and heavy wear, most of the signatures are bright and bold. From the collection of Lee Nunn.
