    Highly-desirable largest-size flown flag

    Space Shuttle Columbia (STS-3) Flown Largest-Size American Flag in Framed Display Directly from the Personal Collection of Mission Commander Jack Lousma, with Signed LOA. An 18" x 11.5" cloth U.S. flag lightly mounted to a matboard with a 4" embroidered mission insignia patch and a signed statement from Lousma: "This U.S. flag was flown aboard the third test flight of Space Shuttle/ Columbia. After 130 revolutions of the Good Earth and traveling 3.4 million/ miles during March 22-30, 1982, Columbia became the only Space Shuttle to/ land on the lakebed at White Sands, New Mexico./ [signed] Jack Lousma/ Commander STS-3". It is framed to an overall 21" x 18.5". Gordon Fullerton was the pilot on this mission. A display item worthy of the finest collections. Excellent.

    Included with this lot is a signed Letter of Authenticity on his letterhead stating, in full: "I hereby certify this 12"x18" US Flag was flown on the STS-3 mission during March 22-30, 1982. This spaceflight was the third Orbital Flight Test of Columbia, America's first Space Shuttle. During this eight-day mission, Columbia traveled 3,400,000 miles and circled the Good Earth 130 times. STS-3 made the only Space Shuttle landing on the lakebed at White Sands, New Mexico. The crew patch depicts major elements of the STS-3 mission including thermal testing of the Space Shuttle, first Remote Manipulator System operation with a payload, many scientific experiments (some shown in cargo bay), and a three-pointed sun signifying the third mission. This US Flag and crew patch are from my personal collection and have been in my sole possession since the STS-3 mission."
