A 5.75" x 3.875" cloth U.S. flag and a 4" diameter embroidered mission insignia patch matted with a montage of color photos on a certificate bearing the text: "This flag and crew patch were flown aboard the third flight of the Space Shuttle Columbia as it completed 130 revolutions of the Earth and travelled 3.4 million miles. March 22-30, 1982". It is signed on a photo beneath: "Jack Lousma/ Commander/ STS-3". An impressive display in a 20.25" x 16.25" frame, ready for display. Excellent.

Included with this lot is a signed Letter of Authenticity on his letterhead stating, in full: "I hereby certify this US Flag and crew patch were both flown on the STS-3 mission during March 22-30, 1982. This spaceflight was the third Orbital Flight Test of Columbia, America's first Space Shuttle. The photographs of this montage depict liftoff at NASA's Kennedy Space Center, the Canadian Remote Manipulator System with its first payload, the landing at White Sands Missile Range, and the STS-3 Commander, personally signed to authenticate the collection. During this eight-day mission, Columbia traveled 3,400,000 miles and circled the Good Earth 130 times. STS-3 made the only Space Shuttle landing on the lakebed at White Sands, New Mexico. An inscription on the montage details the above information. This US Flag and crew patch are from my personal collection and have been in my sole possession since the STS-3 mission."
