Description

Space Shuttle Atlantis (STS-101) Flown "Houston 2012" Lapel Pin in Lucite Display. As part of Houston's bid for the 2012 Olympics spearheaded by the Houston 2012 Foundation, NASA flew a limited quantity of their lapel pins on the STS-101 mission to the International Space Station. This mission took place just a few months before the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. Offered here is one of those flown pins in an attractive 5.25" x 5.25" x 1" clear Lucite display. The text on the enclosed NASA Certificate of Authenticity reads, in part: "These Small Olympic Lapel Pins were flown aboard the United States Space Shuttle ATLANTIS, on its successful mission to service and supply the International Space Station, STS-101, May 19-29, 2000..." A handsome desk display with appeal to collectors of both Space and Olympic memorabilia. Excellent with a very minor surface flaw at right edge.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
