Official world record claims for Luna 10, the first artificial satellite of the moon

Soviet Original Bound Book: "File on Engineering and Scientific Achievements and Records Made by the Luna-10 Automatic Space Station" from the Library of Soviet Engineer Oleg Ivanovsky. "March 31 - May 30, 1966". Published at Moscow in 1971. This 9" x 12" book is beautifully bound in maroon with gilt titles and is printed in English. Inside are nine separate signed statements and reports backing up the two world record claims to the International Aero Federation (FAI): (1) Maximum mass in the Moon orbital flight class "C" and (2) Lunar orbiter life duration in flight class "C". These claims are backed up across ten detailed statements and technical reports, each signed by one or more individuals intimately related to the Luna-10 design and launch: Ivan G. Borisenko, Sports Commissar of USSR Aero Sports Foundation; V. N. Smorkalov, Control Laboratory Chief; K. V. Moltchanov, Telemetry Measurements Laboratory Chief; A. N. Dyatlov, Radiotechnical Laboratory Chief; and Engineers K. S. Anissimov, V. I. Shinkarenko, and G. Borobyev. After these signed statements are five original B&W glossy photos, each laid down to a separate page. An important official Soviet document regarding a landmark early spaceflight. Excellent.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
