Description

    Skylab 1 Oxygen Supply Tank Display Piece, 2" x 1". Presented in a 4.25" x 2.5" diameter glass dome. Three miniature cards are displayed beneath the piece of Skylab detailing the complete story behind this historic space souvenir, including one card reproducing the November 26, 1979 letter from Dr. Raymond L. Gause, leader of the NASA Skylab Team, to Bill Norton, Rawlinna, Australia, thanking him for "the specimen of Skylab reentry debris which you loaned to NASA...identified as part of an Oxygen Supply Tank" and "the return [of] the Skylab material to you." Captioned color photographs of Skylab 1 in flight and Norton and Peter Ralph with the Skylab debris are reproduced on the other two cards. From the cards: "Skylab 1/ America's First Manned Orbiting Laboratory/ Launched J.F.K. Space Center/ Florida, U.S.A. May 14, 1973/ Abandoned in Outerspace February 8, 1974/ crashed back to Earth/ Kalgoorlie, Australia July 11, 1979" and "This limited edition displayed piece of Skylab was discovered by Bill Norton, Laurie Hotstone and Peter Ralph at Rawlinna Ranch. Western Australia. It crashed from a height of 270 miles at a speed of 16,500 mph..."
