Shenzhou 2 Launch Cover Signed by the First Fourteen Chinese Taikonauts. A handsome space-related cover in Chinese. After an unsuccessful attempt at a space program in the early 1970s when nineteen astronauts were selected. China sent, in 1993, two air force pilots for cosmonaut training at Russia's Star City in October 1996. A year later, they returned to China as instructors for China's training program. The two trainers became members of the first group after their training was completed in March 1998. Selection of astronauts for the Shenzhou manned spacecraft began at the end of 1995. Initially 1504 fighter pilot candidates were reviewed, out of which the final twelve were selected and officially established in January 1998. In March 1998, the two Chinese astronauts had trained in Russia joined the group officially as candidates for future space flights, bringing the total to fourteen. This cover bears the autographs of all fourteen of these candidates: Li Qinglong, Wu Jie, Chen Quan, Deng Qingming, Fei Junlong, Jing Haipen, Liu Buoming, Liu Wang, Nie Haisheng, Pan Zhanchum, Yang Liwei, Zhai Zhigang, Zhang Xiaoguan, and Shao Chuandong. A rare and desirable cover. Excellent.
