Richard Nixon Typed Letter Signed (Secretarially) as President to Apollo 12 Astronaut Richard Gordon regarding the "Bullseye" World Tour, with Transmittal Envelope, Directly from the Family Collection of Gordon. One page on 6.75" x 9" White House stationery, dated May 14, 1970, addressed to "Captain Richard F. Gordon, Jr. USN". It reads in full:

    "Dear Dick:

"This is just a note to express my appreciation to you and Mrs. Gordon for undertaking the Apollo XII World Tour. We all recognize the sacrifices which this tour imposed upon you and appreciate the spirit of service which enabled both of you to accept these burdens so willingly.

"In sharing your achievements with the citizens of other countries, you and your fellow crewmen have added a meaningful human dimension to the march of technological progress.

"With my thanks and best wishes,
    [signed] Richard Nixon"

The "Bullseye" World Tour was undertaken by the Apollo 12 crew (and their wives) in early 1970. In thirty-four days they visited twenty-three locations, landed in or overflew thirty-eight countries, crossed the equator six times, and spent ninety-three+ hours in the air. A rare memento from the president thanking a weary traveler for the sacrifice. Even though it was likely signed by his secretary, the sentiments from the president remain the same. Obviously rare and unique. White House envelope included. One fold, extremely fine.
