Neil Armstrong's Federation Aeronautique Internationale (World Air Sports Federation) 1969 Gold Space Medal, MS67 NGC, Directly From The Armstrong Family Collection, CAG Certified. This prestigious gold medal has been awarded semi-regularly since 1962 to give "public recognition to those who have made outstanding contributions to astronautics..." Neil Armstrong was, of course, the recipient in 1969. This is a beautiful medal, 50mm in diameter and 75.71 grams in weight, with a symbolic scene on the obverse and "Federation Aeronautique Internationale" on the reverse above the globe and field of stars with "Neil A. ARMSTRONG/ 1969" engraved below. We are not aware of any of these medals awarded to American astronauts ever appearing at public auction and feel that this is one of the true prizes in this sale.
