    Description

Neil Armstrong: Gamma Pi Wooden Pledge Board Signed by 30 Fraternity Members Presented to Neil Armstrong When He Was Made an Honorary Member in 1966, Directly From The Armstrong Family Collection™, Certified by Collectibles Authenticity Guaranty With Photo Certificate. Measuring 6" x 12", varnished wood with painted black borders and accents. The recto is captioned "Gamma Pi / I / Armstrong" with cutout and applied letters; the verso is painted with the fraternity's Greek letters. The plaque is signed, in ink, by 30 members of the fraternity. Perhaps it's not well known that Armstrong loved music and was actually a very good musician. In the eighth grade he joined the Upper Sandusky school band choosing to play a baritone horn. His mother recalls asking him why he choose such a big horn given his small stature but Neil indicated he liked the tone. He took his baritone horn to Purdue in the fall of 1947 and he performed with the Purdue "All American" Marching Band and Concert Band. In 1966, Armstrong visited the Purdue campus and appeared in a variety show which the band was presenting for visiting alumni during Gala Week. The band presented him with a Purdue band blazer and Honorary Membership in the Gamma Pi Chapter of KKY, national band fraternity. Along with this pledge board he was presented a pledge cap and KKY pin. Very fine. This lot will include an encapsulated CAG Photo Certificate with a Statement of Provenance signed by Neil Armstrong's sons, Rick and Mark.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
