DescriptionNASA Kennedy Space Center Saturn V S-IC Control Panel, Circa 1966. A massive 19" x 17.5" x 20" rack-mount panel titled "S-II Intermediate" on the front. It contains twenty-one toggle switches, several of the locking pull variety, two meters ("Hyd Withdrawn CN2 Charging Pressure" and "Arm Position"), and dozens of lighted indicators (by Roto-Tellite, 9/65 mfg.). At the lower right corner of the back panel are attached three metal tags. The top is labeled "US John F. Kennedy Space Center NASA" with the Nomenclature "SVC AND ACCESS ARM CONTROL SYS"; CEI "9SA001A"; SN "004"; PN 75M14798-16/5413"; and Design Contractor "GE CO/ ASD 16331". There are also three Mod Kit Nos listed with install dates of June 19, 1969. The middle label lists the Boeing Contract number as "NAS8-5608" and repeats the part and serial numbers. The bottom label is titled "CHASSIS ASSY. LCC PANEL", adds the Accept Date "Jan. 1966", and repeats much of the above information. Also on the back are four 1.5" diameter, multi-pin connectors (J1-J4). All the switches and panel lights are painstakingly hand-wired. This is an incredibly impressive and obviously quite rare piece of original NASA Saturn rocket equipment. Some shrewd bidder will get to add this to their Space display. Signs of use but fine overall.
Based on government documents regarding this contract: "In January 1963 NASA awarded cost-plus-fixed-fee contract NAS8-5608 to Boeing for the production of 11 (later reduced to 10) S-IC stages which are a part of the Saturn V launch vehicles used in the manned space flight program." This contract was later modified several times, mostly regarding financial terms and numbers of stages to be built.
