    NASA Astronaut Group Two: NASA's Space News Roundup Publication Dated September 19, 1962, Introducing the "New Nine" Astronauts including Neil Armstrong and Reporting on John F. Kennedy's Famous Rice Stadium Speech, Directly From The Armstrong Family Collection™, Certified and Encapsulated by Collectibles Authentication Guaranty. A NASA publication reporting on happenings at the Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston, Texas. This is Volume 1, Number 24, a very special issue as it announces two major events in Space history:

    (1) Under a headline that reads: "Kennedy Makes MSC Third Stop In 'Space Tour'", the article describes JFK's recent visit to Cape Canaveral, Huntsville, and the MSC, mentioning his famous speech at Rice Stadium, quoting: "The exploration of space will go ahead, whether we join it or not... no nation which expects to be a leader of other nations can expect to stay behind in this race for space. In the last 24 hours we have seen the facilities now being created for the greatest and..." (continued on page 6). Later in the speech he would utter the phrase that would have a life-changing impact on Armstrong: "We choose to go to the moon. We choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard..." It was hard, but Armstrong accomplished it.
    (2) The naming of what we call NASA Astronaut Group Two or "The New Nine." Interestingly the headline here, beneath a great group photo, is "MSC Names Nine New Pilot Trainees". This issue is date two days after the press conference that introduced them to the public.

    What a great issue to own knowing that it was the one saved by Armstrong to remember the day he was named an astronaut. Horizontal fold and small, dark stain at left edge from a fire in the Armstrong home, fine. Sealed in a numbered archival sleeve. This lot will include a Statement of Provenance signed by Neil Armstrong's sons, Rick and Mark.
