DescriptionMercury-Atlas 9 (Faith 7) Flown Largest Size American Flag Originally from the Personal Collection of Gordon Cooper, Signed and Certified. A 17" x 11.5" silk U.S. flag signed on the lowest white stripe: "This flag was flown on Faith 7, May 15-16, 1963 Gordon Cooper". Cooper was one of the original Mercury Seven astronauts selected. This was the final single-astronaut mission of the Mercury series and, by far, the longest U.S. flight to that date; it consisted of twenty-two orbits and lasted one day and ten hours. Rarely offered. Flag stored folded. Excellent condition. From the Steven R. Belasco Collection of Space Memorabilia.
Included with this lot is a printed Certificate of Authenticity stating, in full: "Silk United States Flag flown by Astronaut Gordon Cooper on Faith 7, May 15-16, 1963, the last and longest Mercury space flight. The flag is from Gordon Cooper's personal collection."
