Flown on the first U.S. manned orbital fight

Mercury-Atlas 6 (Friendship 7) Flown One Dollar Bill Signed by John Glenn, Scott Carpenter, and Numerous Others, with Signed Certificate of Authenticity. A Series 1957A $1 Silver Certificate, serial number F48202890A, which flew with John Glenn on his three-orbit mission, February 20, 1962. It is signed by two astronauts: "J H Glenn, Jr" and "M Scott Carpenter" to the left of Washington's portrait. It was also signed by a large number of others, most being members of the flight crew, including: "Guenter F Wendt" (launch pad leader), "Thomas E. Griffin", "E[rnest] R. Rogers", "C H Bell", "Jack Turnbull" (McDonnell crew), "Cal Moser" (McDonnell technician), "Paul E Thompson", "Jim Wilson", "George Baldwin", "Joe Trammel" (McDonnell crew), "Bill Mosley" (McDonnell capsule test conductor), "Lee Covell" (McDonnell crew), "Jim Vlahakes" (McDonnell crew), and "Don Kieffer". There are at least thirty signatures total on this significant piece of space history. It was originally given by a member of the flight crew to the pastor of his church near the cape. We have not seen another one of these with this many signatures.

There were apparently fifty-two pieces of U.S. currency ($1 and $2) that flew with Glenn on this historic flight. A list of the serial numbers is included with the lot. The note is lightly attached at the corners to a decorative printed certificate with the following text: "The following U.S. currency Serial No. F48202890A accompanied Lt. Col. John H. Glenn on the first manned orbital flight aboard Friendship 7 Feb. 20, 1962. [Signed] J H Glenn Jr. [Signed] M Scott Carpenter". The bill is near excellent; the certificate has a very light horizontal fold and tape remnants on the verso. Also included is an original Air Force / NASA 10" x 8" B&W glossy of Glenn walking from Hangar S on the way to the capsule (very good) and an original "Project Mercury" first day cover (fair).
