Mercury-Atlas 6 (Friendship 7) Flown Heat Shield Fragment on Photo Presentation Certificate. A 0.375" x 0.3125" triangular-shaped piece of the heat shield from John Glenn's orbital flight mounted to an 8" x 10" color silk finish photo of the launch on February 20, 1962. Included is Certificate of Authenticity #37, signed by Florian Noller of and stating: "Herewith I certify that the heatshield fragment attached to the photo presentation is from the Friendship 7 ablative heatshield and was flown in space on Mercury MA-6 along with John Glenn february 20th, 1962 - first manned US orbital spaceflight. The source heatshield plug was removed after the flight and presented to Gemini Program Office special assistant and longtime NASA employee, Paul M. Sturtevant encased in an acrylic." It is also numbered and signed on the back of the presentation. Excellent.
