DescriptionJohn Young's Official United States Passport, January 13, 1981 - January 12, 1986, Directly from his Personal Collection, Signed. The flexible cover is maroon with "Official Passport United States of America" and the Great Seal in gold, 3.5" x 5", twenty-four internal pages. Pages two and three have Young's signed personal information ("John Watts Young") and B&W photo with the printed statement, "This bearer is abroad on an official assignment for the Government of the United States of America." Numerous stamps/visas inside. Excellent condition.
Both of Young's flights on the Space Shuttle (STS-1 and STS-9) happened during the period that this passport covered. He was certainly on official assignment for the U.S. Government during those missions but his passport was not required.
