Description

"Did not include frequent flyer points!"

James Lovell's Apollo 13 Post-Flight Expense Reimbursement Travel Voucher Directly from His Personal Collection, with Signed LOA. An 8" x 10.5" printed Government form titled "Travel Voucher" (1012-A) filled in (in carbon) by hand and typewriter requesting a payment by check to "Capt. James A. Lovell" for travel and other expenses from March 29 to April 19, 1970, the period that included the Apollo 13 mission. The verso has a detailed listing of the expenses which total $369.91 due primarily for Lovell's per diems. We love the notation that covers the period of the Apollo 13 flight: "Three meals and quarters furnished from 04-11 to 04-17." Personally, we feel that he should have gotten some sort of extra "hazard pay" based on the ordeal he endured. The front is signed in ink: "Beautiful - zoomtastic!/ Welcome home!" by Jinny, Jeanne, Gerry, Ruby, Dee, and Donna- likely from staff at the Manned Spacecraft Center. A unique and very cool piece of memorabilia showing the inner workings of the NASA accounting system. Very fine.

Included with this lot is a signed Letter of Certification from Lovell on his company letterhead stating, in full: "Upon returning from the Apollo 13 flight I was required to submit an expense report for expenses incurred. Attached is my Apollo 13 expense report for the flight around the moon. Did not include frequent flyer points! This expense report was from my personal collection of space artifacts and has been in my possession since the mission."
