    International Space Station medal collection

I.S.S. Expeditions 1 through 48: Jerry Ross's Collection of 49 Unflown Silver Robbins Medals [with] STS-88 Flown and Worn Shirt, Signed Color Photo and Autobiography, with Signed Certificates of Authenticity. An amazing collection of these rare and beautiful medals representing the first thirteen-plus years of occupation, by astronauts and cosmonauts from several countries, of the International Space Station. Medals for these long-duration missions were issued in extremely limited numbers (likely under 100 each) and rarely ever appear on the collector market. This group is extraordinary in that all forty-nine medals (Expedition 1-48 plus I.S.S. One Year) are still in their original cases with serial-numbered stickers and are in gorgeous mint state condition. Several are numbered in the single digits. It is of our opinion that some of the most elaborate and beautiful medals ever produced by Robbins are included in this series, well-suited for display.

Colonel Ross has made an unprecedented offer to the winning bidder of this lot. He has agreed to sell all future medals in this series at a negotiated price and terms. The buyer will receive an e-mail address with which to contact Ross regarding this offer. This collection will never go out of date!

The I.S.S. orbits about 220 miles above the earth, completing 15.5 orbits per day. It was built in orbit by five different space agencies representing fifteen countries, beginning with Russia's Zarya module launched in 1998. It has been continuously occupied since November 2, 2000, when the first Expedition crew of William Shepherd, Sergei Krikalev, and Yuri Gidzenko arrived. It is as big as a five-bedroom house, has two bathrooms and a gym as well as research laboratories and serves as a potential stepping stone for further space exploration including a manned mission to Mars.

Included with this lot is a signed COA by Jerry Ross on his letterhead reading, in full: "This up-to-date set of 49 sterling silver Robbins International Space Station non-flown medallions is from the personal collection of astronaut Colonel Jerry L Ross and were collected throughout his NASA career. A list of the medallions in the set is on the following page. The offering also includes a shirt that Colonel Ross wore on orbit with its own Certificate of Authenticity and an autographed copy of his autobiography. Colonel Ross set and now shares the World Record with seven launches into space, all on the Space Shuttle. He also performed nine space walks including three to start the assembly of the International Space Station (ISS) and two more to continue the construction of the ISS. Colonel Ross was with NASA from before the first Space Shuttle launch until after the last Space Shuttle landing. He was also involved with the International Space Station from its inception until after assembly was complete. Colonel Ross will also offer the purchaser an opportunity to obtain future International Space Station medallions as they are produced. [signed] Jerry L. Ross. Mission Specialist on STS-61B, 27, 37, 55, 74, 88, 110"
