Description

Gemini Summary Conference Book Originally from the Personal Collection of Gemini 6A Command Pilot Walter Schirra, Signed. A 345-page, illustrated, softbound NASA publication SP-138, 7.75" x 10.25". It is signed on the front cover: "Wally Schirra". From the foreword: "The Gemini Summary Conference was held on February 1 and 2, 1967, at the NASA Manned Spacecraft Center, Houston, Tex. The conference emphasized the highlights of the Gemini Program and especially the flight results of the last five missions. [See lot #41024 for the Gemini Midprogram Conference report that covers the earlier flights in more detail.] This report contains the 21 technical papers presented at the conference as well as an introduction by George M. Mueller and concluding remarks by George M. Low..." One must note that the fatal Apollo 1 launch pad fire occurred just two days before the scheduled start of this conference. The joy felt at the successful conclusion of the Gemini program would certainly have been tempered by the tragic loss of three of their own, two of whom flew in these Gemini missions. This is likely as detailed and complete a book about this American space project as you will find. Very good condition with some wear on the front cover.
