Description

Gemini 9A Flown Heavily Annotated World Weather Map Signed by and from the Personal Collection of Mission Pilot Gene Cernan, titled "Gemini Mission Chart (GMC) 9". This printed color Mercator-projection world map, 32" x 10.75" in size, has the first sixteen orbits plotted (with the ground-track coordinates for the balance of the orbits printed in a chart on the verso), as well as ground tracking and proposed landing zones marked. What makes it particularly interesting is the amount of information that has been added by hand in various-colored felt-tip pens, both text and graphics. "Areas of Frequent Showers/ Low Ceilings, and Poor Visibilities" are designated by green cloud-shaped drawings, areas with certain levels of wind or waves are marked in yellow or purple, all based on the forecast for "6/3/66", the launch date of the mission. Captain Cernan has certified and signed at lower left: "Flown on Gemini IX Gene Cernan". An important weather map that Pilot Cernan certainly would have need of on this flight. Certainly a great item for display. Extremely fine condition with vertical folds.
