Gemini 7 Recovery Ship U.S.S. Wasp Hat from the Personal Collection of Mission Pilot James Lovell. A navy blue baseball-style cap with yellow cloth bullion on the bill and a captain's insignia beneath the "U.S.S. Wasp" sewn-on patch on the front. After fourteen days in space, Gemini 7 splashed down within 12 kilometers of their target. This was the cap that Lovell received when picked up by rescue helicopter from the Wasp, an Essex class aircraft carrier that was involved in the rescue of most of the Gemini missions. A great opportunity to own a very personal souvenir from this record-breaking mission. Excellent condition.

This lot includes a signed Letter of Authenticity from Lovell on his letterhead stating: "...[This] recovery cap is the cap that was presented to me on board the recovery helicopter after splashdown when we returned from Gemini 7... [It] has been in my possession since the mission."
