Description

    Gemini 7 Flown Heat Shield Plug in Lucite from the Personal Collection of Mission Pilot James Lovell with written and signed authentication from him. A section, 0.75" x 0.75" x 1.75", sealed in a Lucite cylinder, 3" in diameter and 2.5" tall with "GEMINI VII/ DEC. 4-18, 1965" engraved on the bottom. Included with it is a signed, handwritten certification on the verso of Lovell's business card: "A piece of Heat Shield/ from Gemini 7/ Authenticated/ James Lovell/ Pilot GT-7". Gemini 7 was an important mission in that it was involved in a space rendezvous with Gemini 6A and that it tested the effects of long-duration spaceflight. Excellent condition.

    This lot includes a signed Letter of Authenticity from Lovell on his letterhead stating: "I hereby certify that this is a piece of the heat shield that was removed from the Gemini 7 spacecraft and given to me shortly after my return on the Gemini 7 mission in December, 1965. This heat shield is from my personal collection of space artifacts and has been in my possession since the mission."
