Description

Gemini 3 Flown Silver Fliteline Medallion Originally from the Collection of Gordon Cooper. This 26mm sterling silver medal flew on America's first two-man space mission on March 23, 1965, along with Gus Grissom and John Young. The obverse features the mission insignia of a space capsule floating in the water with "The Molly Brown" and the crew's full names above and below. The reverse has a struck "GT-3" and an engraved mission date along with the sterling hallmark. Grissom named the flight after the Broadway play, The Unsinkable Molly Brown, a lighthearted reference to his first spacecraft Liberty Bell 7, which sank after splashdown. NASA was not happy with the name, but relented; this was the last Gemini flight the astronauts were allowed to name. This particular medal was given by Gus Grissom to Gordon Cooper who served as Cape CapCom for the mission. Included is a Certificate of Authenticity from RR Auction. Excellent condition.
