Description
Gemini 12 Flown MS60 NGC Gold-colored Fliteline Medallion Originally from the Personal Collection of Mission Commander James Lovell, with His Signed Letter of Certification. This 25mm medal flew aboard Gemini 12 with crewmembers James Lovell and Buzz Aldrin, November 11-15, 1966. It features the mission insignia on the obverse with the Roman numeral "XII" at the twelve o'clock position and the Gemini capsule positioned like a clock's hour hand. This was the final Gemini flight and the crescent moon at left symbolizes the ultimate goal of the space program. The surnames of the astronauts are also on the obverse. "Gemini Twelve" is struck on the reverse along with the engraved dates of the mission. See adjacent lot for the matching silver-colored medal from Lovell. A handsome Uncirculated example.Included with this lot is a signed Letter of Certification from Lovell on his company letterhead stating, in full: "I hereby certify that this Fliteline Gold Colored Medallion was flown with me aboard my Gemini 12 mission in November, 1966. This medal is from my personal collection of space artifacts and has been in my possession since the mission."
