Description

Gemini 12 Flown Large-Size American Flag Directly from the Personal Collection of Mission Commander James Lovell, Certified and Signed. A beautiful 18" x 11.5" silk U.S. flag, certified and signed by Lovell on a white stripe: "This Flag Was Flown Aboard Gemini 12 Nov 1966. James Lovell ". Gemini 12, the last mission of the Project, orbited the Earth fifty-nine times from November 11-15, 1966. Its objectives were to prove that an astronaut could work safely and easily outside the spacecraft, to perform scientific experiments, and to rendezvous and dock with an Agena target vehicle. Gemini 12 is the only spacecraft to travel through the umbra of a total solar eclipse, an event that Pilot Buzz Aldrin photographed. Excellent condition with storage folds.

This lot includes a signed Letter of Certification from Lovell stating: "[This item] was flown on board Gemini 12 spacecraft. Gemini 12 launched in November of 1966 was the tenth and final flight of the Gemini series, which bridged the Mercury and Apollo programs."
