DescriptionGemini 11 Flown Gold-Plated Silver Fliteline Medallion Originally from the Personal Collection of Astronaut Jerry Carr, with LOA. This 20 mm x 25 mm sterling silver medal was flown aboard Gemini 11 with crew members Charles Conrad and Richard Gordon, September 12-15, 1966. This mission accomplished a rendezvous immediately after reaching orbit, just as it would have to be done with the upcoming Apollo missions around the Moon; only 85 minutes after launch, Conrad and Gordon matched orbits with their Agena target stage and docked several times. On the obverse of the medal, stars are used to mark the major milestones of the mission. The first orbit Agena rendezvous is marked by a small star just above the earth, to the left. The Agena docking is marked by a large star on the left. The star at the top marks the record high apogee. The star on right marks Gordon's spacewalk. The reverse has the engraved dates of the flight and the mission designation. Tiny hole drilled at top with jump ring attached for wear on a necklace or bracelet. Light scratching on the reverse.
Included with this lot is a signed Letter of Authentication from Carr on his personal letterhead stating, in full: "This commemorative medallion was flown aboard Gemini XI by its crew, Pete Conrad and Richard Gordon. It was made available to me by the crew and has been the property of the Carr family collection ever since."

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.View More Testimonials
