Description

Gemini 11 Flown Fliteline Gold-Plated Sterling Silver Medallion Originally from the Personal Collection of Mission Commander Charles Conrad Jr. This 20mm x 30mm shield-shaped silver medal with the mission insignia on the obverse is one of possibly only one-hundred minted. It is estimated that maybe only ten of the group were gold-plated making this example particularly desirable. Excellent condition.

It has been mounted to a signed Letter of Certification from Conrad (1930-1999) stating: "This gold-plated sterling silver Gemini XI medallion flew in space from September 12 to 15, 1966. I was mission commander and fellow astronaut Richard Gordon was pilot. Our flight accomplished a rendezvous with an Agena target vehicle in less than one orbit of the Earth. After docking, we used the Agena's large rocket engine to set a world altitude record of 850 miles. The medallion is from my personal collection." Conrad has added "GT-11 CDR" beneath his signature.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
