    Description

    Ex. John Young

Gemini 10 Flown Flag of Mauritania (Islamic Republic of Mauritania) from the John W. Young Collection, with Letter of Certification. A 6.25" x 3.875" cloth flag that flew forty-three orbits around the Earth with crewmembers John Young and Michael Collins on Gemini 10 between July 18th and 21st, 1966. This design of a green field with an upward-pointed yellow crescent and star was adopted in 1959 and replaced in 2017. Excellent.

Included with this lot is a Letter of Certification signed by Young's widow, Susy Young. It reads, in full: "I hereby certify that the small size country of Mauritania flag that accompanies this letter was flown aboard the Gemini 10 mission July 18-21, 1966. It has been a part of the John W. Young collection since returning from the mission. The flag has a holographic tamper-proof label attached, #1745077, to ensure authenticity, that will display a residual honeycomb design without number when removed."
