Ex. John Young
Gemini 10 Flown Embroidered Mission Insignia Patch, One of 110
Supplied to NASA, Directly from the John W. Young Collection, with
Letter of Certification. This 4" x 3" (overall size) patch flew
with crewmembers John Young and Michael Collins aboard the
earth-orbit Gemini 10 mission, July 18-21, 1966. The insignia is
simple but symbolic. There is a large red Roman numeral "X" against
a light blue background with two spacecraft orbiting it- a Gemini
capsule and an Agena Target Vehicle. There are two stars in gold
signifying either the two crewmembers, the two rendezvous, and/or
the two "twin" stars in the Gemini constellation, Castor and
Pollux. It is one of the rarest of all crew patches and one of a
few without the crew's names. Excellent.
Included with this lot is a Letter of Certification signed by Young's widow, Susy Young. It reads, in full: "I hereby certify that the Gemini 10 'Texas Art Embroidery' Embroidered Mission patch that accompanies this letter was flown aboard the Gemini 10 mission July 18-21, 1966. It has been a part of the John W. Young collection since returning from the mission. The flag package is sealed with a holographic tamper-proof label, #1745119, to ensure authenticity, that will display a residual honeycomb design without number if removed."
