DescriptionEd White II: Army - Navy Track Meet One Mile Relay Medal Presented to Him in 1952 and Directly from His Personal Collection. It may not be widely known that Gemini 4 Pilot Ed White II was quite a track star during his high school and college days (not to mention his success on the soccer field). In fact, he set a West Point record for the 400 meter hurdles and very nearly made the 1952 U.S. Olympics track team. Offered here is one of his prized medals from the glory days at the United States Military Academy. It is a 1/10 10K gold filled medal of 31mm diameter with "ARMY - NAVY" and "TRACK MEET" above and below three running athletes and the schools' crests on the obverse. On the reverse is engraved "1952/ U.S. Naval Academy/ One Mile Relay" along with the Bailey, Banks & Biddle hallmark. It is suspended from a yellow and blue ribbon. The original box is included. Excellent condition.
Included with this lot is a signed certificate of authenticity from Ed White III.
