A vintage chromogenic 10" x 8" print on Kodak fiber-based paper bearing the "A Kodak Paper" watermark on the verso of NASA image AS16-116-18603. It is boldly signed in blue felt tip: "I took this photo/ of House Rock on/ EVA-3. North Ray/ Crater is off to the left./ The black/ marks on the photo/ are the result of/ lunar dust on the/ film./ Charlie Duke/ Apollo 16 LMP". A desirable original photo with unique handwritten comments on the image from the photographer himself. Excellent.
Included with this lot is a signed Certificate of Authentication from Duke on his letterhead. It reads, in full: "The accompanying photo of the large rock in the distance which we named 'House Rock' was taken by me on EVA 3 as we stood on the flank of North Ray Crater. We estimate its size to be 45 meters long by 15 meters high. The black marks on the photo are a result of lunar dust between the film and the reseau plate in the camera. It is an original NASA 'Red Letter' photo with number AS16-116-18603 printed on it. This original was presented to me after the film was developed at JSC after our flight. This photo bears silent witness to mankind's first journey to, and exploration of, the magnificent lunar highlands! Descartes Highlands of the Moon April 20-23, 1972."
