DescriptionBuzz Aldrin Signed Explorers Club Flag Originally from His Personal Collection. A 6" x 4" cloth flag stapled to a 10.5" black wooden stick with a gold-colored finial at top. It is signed in black ink across the front: "Buzz Aldrin". To quote from their website: "The Explorers Club is an international multidisciplinary professional society dedicated to the advancement of field research and the ideal that it is vital to preserve the instinct to explore. Since its inception in 1904, the Club has served as a meeting point and unifying force for explorers and scientists worldwide." (www.explorers.org). Though this flag is not known to have flown, Explorers Club flags have quite a history, going along on hundreds of important expeditions since 1918, including several Apollo missions to the moon. Aldrin was a 1971 recipient of The Explorers Club Medal and the club presents the Buzz Aldrin Space Exploration Award "to individuals noted for accomplishments in exploration of outer space that best typify the spirit of explorer Buzz Aldrin." Excellent.
