    Description

Buzz Aldrin's Personally-Owned Meade Astronomical Telescope with Full-Length Tripod, Signed on Top. You won't be able to see the moon quite as close as Aldrin did, but owning his telescope is nearly the next-best thing. Offered here is a Meade Model ETX-90EC astronomical telescope with electronic controller, repacked back into its original shipping box. Boldly signed in silver on top: "Buzz Aldrin". From the manufacturer's description, this telescope features: "Dual axis motor drive system; Pushbutton electronic hand controller; Cordless operation; Maksutov-Cassegrain optical system; Flip mirror system (straight or 90 degree observing position); Super multi-coated optical lens, 26MM lens; 1250MM focal length; Setting circles and locks on both axes; and electronic control panel." The tripod has also been repacked into its original box. It is described by Meade: "Tripod height is continuously adjustable from 25 inches to 43 inches to allow for standing or seated observations. A graduated scale for elevation angle permits precise polar alignment of the telescope's fork mount for astronomical applications with the standard-equipment Electronic Controller. Elevation angle can be fixed at any observing latitude between 20 degrees and 90 degrees." This telescope was presented to Buzz Aldrin by Meade as one of the sponsors of Dr. Buzz Aldrin's "Next Century of Flight Space Imperatives" conference held in Washington, D.C. on December 18, 2003 - one day after the Centennial Celebration of Flight celebrating Orville and Wilber Wright's first powered flight. Not tested by Heritage. Apparently fine.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany this lot.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
