Description

Apollo Training-Used Flashlight Model ACR FA-5 in Plastic, Directly from the Collection of James Lovell, with Signed LOA. Quite an unusual find! Offered here is a 5.5" long flashlight in gold-colored plastic with a printed label taped around the top of the barrel reading: "NASA APOLLO Lite/ ACR FA-5 2/70". It has the general appearance of the standard brass milled examples that were used on the missions. The date of 2/70 is known as one of the dates of manufacture for the Apollo flashlights. This was possibly made just for training purposes or was a prototype of a model with a lower weight. Some astute bidder will get to add this to their collection. Bulb present but no lens, the bottom is partially broken but the batteries appear to be inside. Very good overall.

Included with this lot is a signed Letter of Certification from Lovell on his company letterhead stating, in full: "I hereby certify that this flashlight was used during training for my Apollo Flights. This flashlight is from my personal collection of space artifacts and has been in my possession since the mission."

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
