A heat shield core from the U.S. spacecraft that ended the space race.

    Apollo-Soyuz Test Project Heat Shield Core Sample Display as Presented by Rockwell to, and Originally from the Personal Collection of, Command Module Pilot Vance Brand. A 2.625" long x 1.25" x 0.625" half-cylinder shaped core sample mounted in a 4.375" wide x 3" tall slanted-front piece of Lucite along with an Apollo charm, a Soyuz charm, a 1" diameter enameled flight insignia medallion, and a plate engraved as follows: "Apollo Heat Shield Core Sample/ Serial No: C/M 111 Model No. V-36-3/ Part No: V36-000002-151". This is attached onto a red velvet stand and then to a 10" x 5" x 0.75" marble pen set base. The presentation plaque reads: "Presented To Vance D. Brand U.S.A./ In Commemoration Of The First International/ Joint Manned Space Flight - Apollo Soyuz/ Launched July 15, 1975/ Space Division, Rockwell International/ October 20, 1975 - Downey, California, U.S.A." The original fountain and ballpoint pens are included. Excellent condition save for a minor chip at the lower right front edge of the marble base.
