Description

The tallest, heaviest, and most powerful rocket ever launched, used in all the Apollo lunar missions

Apollo-Saturn V Marshall Space Flight Center Launch Vehicle Model on Base with Original Case. Words do not do justice to this incredible and quite rare official model, circa late-1960s, from the Graphic Engineering and Models Branch at the George C. Marshall Space Flight Center. On a wooden base of 8" square, this 1/96 scale Saturn V model stands approximately 47" tall. There is a tiny human figure attached to the base to signify the enormity of this rocket. It appears to be absolutely complete. Separable sections include the base, first stage (S-IC), second stage (S-II), third stage (S-IVB), instrument unit, a two-piece lunar module (ascent and descent stages), service module, command module, and launch escape tower. The detail is unbelievable. An extremely rare and desirable model, certainly museum quality. Don't miss this one, another might not show up for years. Some paint chipping near the top- easily mitigated, very fine overall.

Included is the blue painted wooden carrying case with handle, 27" x 9.5" x 13.5", labeled "SATURN V No. 361". It bears two Marshall SFC "FRAGILE" stickers (1964-dated) and the remains of a shipping label (not readable) on front and a 1969-dated air freight label on top. Interior is padded with custom cutouts. Some scratches and dings on the case as expected, overall very good.

The actual Saturn V rocket stood 363 feet tall. It had three stages that are clearly marked on this model. Altogether, there were thirteen of them launched- all but one (Apollo 6) successfully. It was used to propel all nine of the manned missions to the moon as well as Apollo 9 and the Skylab orbital workshop and was retired after the 1973 Skylab launch.
