Apollo Program: Lunar Module Quality Control Sign and Flight Tag. Two rarely-seen original vintage items obtained by our consignor from a Grumman employee at the plant in Bethpage, New York, who worked on the Apollo LM program from 1967 to 1971. (1) A 12" square, brightly colored sign on heavy cardboard. It reads: "Area Closed Out/ Do Not Enter Without/ Q.C. Reentry Traveler". On the verso is stamped "LM Inspection". This sign was posted just outside the LM Ascent Stage cabin at the entrance of a pressurized tent. It served as a reminder to workers to sign in with QC before entering the LM cabin to work or conduct tests. Since the sign was made from cardboard it was originally contained in a heat sealed bag to protect the spacecraft from small particle contaminants; (2) A 3" x 12" red plastic tag, hole punched at top, printed: "Remove Before Flight". Because the lunar module was designed to operate only in space and on the moon, it was very fragile. On earth, many parts could be easily damaged during assembly and testing. To protect such delicate parts protective covers were used. Each cover had a "Remove Before Flight" tag such as this one on it. These tags were made from plastic as cloth tags would generate small particles which could contaminate the spacecraft. Two great items perfect for display with any Apollo collection. Both in very good condition.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
