Apollo Command Module Environmental Control System Hardware: Suit Heat Exchanger with Two Installed Controllers, AiResearch Part 820956 (Contract NAS-9-150). A large, heavy, and sophisticated assembly measuring (overall) 17.5" x 10" x 13", partially covered with insulation and metal tape. Bracketed to the bottom are two controllers, 6.5" x 7" x 1.5", both with multi-pin electrical connectors and metal tags identifying them as part number "820956-2-1" and serial numbers "0106R1 / "0106R2". According to a NASA document: "The suit heat exchanger is made of two separate stacks of stainless steel fins and plates. One set is connected to the primary coolant system and the other is connected to the secondary coolant system... It cools suit gas to 50 to 55 degrees F and controls humidity by removing excess water. The water is collected by metal wicks and transported to the waste water storage tank." The unit has inlets and outlets for both oxygen and water-glycol. Rarely offered and perfect for display. Very fine.
