DescriptionApollo 9 Flown Largest Size Illinois State Flag Originally from the Personal Collection of Mission Commander Jim McDivitt, Signed and Certified, with Signed COA. A 17" x 12" plastic flag boldly signed in black felt tip: "Flown on Apollo 9/ Jim McDivitt" at top left. This was the third manned Apollo mission, March 3-13, 1969, with crewmembers McDivitt, Dave Scott, and Rusty Schweickart aboard. It was the first flight of the Command/ Service Module along with the Lunar Module. The testing accomplished during its ten days in low earth orbit proved the LM worthy of manned spaceflight, an important step in the race to a manned moon landing just four months later. Excellent for display. Some folds and creases, overall fine.
Included with this lot is a COA from Astronaut Central signed by McDivitt, stating: "I certify that this item is from my personal collection, from my years as a NASA astronaut. It has flown in space."
