    Description

Apollo 9 Crew-Signed Large-Size Recovery Ship Cover from the U.S.S. Guadalcanal. An unusual #10 size philatelic cover with the "U.S. Navy Recovery Force Atlantic" cachet for AS-504 as well as a graphic of the lunar module and the text: "First Space Test Flight of The Lunar Module." Cancelled on the splashdown date of March 13, 1969, aboard the Guadalcanal with a rubber-stamped "LPH-7" cachet on the verso. All three crewmembers have signed on the front: "James A. McDivitt", "Dave Scott", and "Rusty Schweickart". It is addressed from and to Jack Day; he was a NASA biomedical engineer who often traveled to the recovery ships in order to take medical readings from the astronauts soon after their return to earth. Minor wear from postal use, overall fine.
