DescriptionApollo 8 Training-Used Apollo 8 Maneuver Attitudes Relative to the Celestial Sphere... Book Directly from the Personal Collection of Mission Command Module Pilot James Lovell, Signed, with Signed LOA. ...As Viewed From the Spacecraft. A staple-bound 8" x 10.5" book of 118 pages, MSC Internal Note No. 68-FM-294. The printed date is December 9, 1968 but there is a stamped date in red of Dec 6 1968. Signed on the front cover: "James Lovell". This important manual, full of graphics, was used by Lovell in preparing for the historic mission. According to the Summary and Introduction, "This report depicts star-field, earth-moon terminator and horizon orientations for the Apollo 8 mission as viewed from the spacecraft commander's window... Since a knowledge of how the spacecraft should be oriented with respect to familiar objects visible from the spacecraft window would be invaluable for performing abort maneuvers as well as the nominal maneuvers, the primary objective of this report is to provide out-the-window views for the Apollo 8 mission." Very fine.
Included with this lot is a signed Letter of Authenticity from Lovell on his company letterhead stating, in full: "I hereby certify that this Maneuver Attitudes Training Manual is part of my personal space artifacts. Apollo 8 was the first journey to the moon in December, 1968."

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.View More Testimonials
