Wisconsin Flag Flown Aboard Apollo 8, Signed by the Crew on its Mount.Apollo 8 Flown Wisconsin Flag from the Personal Collection of Mission Command Module Pilot James Lovell. This 6" x 4" flag with the state motto "Forward" (very appropriate) was aboard Apollo 8 on its journey to the moon. It is mounted onto a 10" x 12" certificate with the text, "This Flag was Carried Aboard the First Manned Lunar Orbit Spacecraft/ APOLLO 8/ December 21-27, 1968/ Borman - Lovell - Anders". The bold authentic signatures of the crew, "James Lovell", "Frank Borman", and "Bill Anders" are found at the bottom. Note: the current Wisconsin flag now contains the terms "Wisconsin" and "1848"; this modification was made in 1981. A rare chance to own an Apollo 8 flown flag directly from the collection of one of the crewmembers.
This lot includes a signed Letter of Authenticity from Lovell on his letterhead stating: "I hereby certify that this Wisconsin Flag was flown on board Apollo 8 and is signed by the crew. spacecraft. Apollo 8 was the first journey to the moon in December, 1968. This flag is from my personal collection of space artifacts and has been in my possession since the mission.
