Apollo 8 Flown PPK that "Contained Christmas Surprises".

Apollo 8 Flown Pilot's Personal Preference Kit Signed by and from the Personal Collection of Mission Command Module Pilot James Lovell. A Beta cloth bag, 5.5" x 8" with a 2" gusset; a sewn-on tag has the printed information: "KIT, PILOT'S PREFERENCE/ P/N SEB 12100018-202/ S/N 1013/ MFG. BY CSD/MSC 5/68" and the handwritten words, "MERRY CHRISTMAS/ JIM LOVELL". Lovell has certified and signed just below: "PPK Kit on board Apollo 8/ It contained Christmas surprises/ James Lovell". Was the mentioned surprise possibly a small bottle of brandy? On the storage bag is a handwritten label: "Pilots Preference Kit Pouch...Flown on Apollo 8 James Lovell". Apollo 8 was man's first journey to the moon; the world listened and watched as the crew made a Christmas Eve 1968 television broadcast from lunar orbit in which they read the first ten verses from the Bible. At the time, it was the most watched TV program ever. Their successful mission paved the way for Apollo 11's successful moon landing just seven months later. This is a rare opportunity to own such an important flown item from the landmark mission. Extremely fine condition with only a tiny amount of soiling.

This lot includes a signed Letter of Authenticity from Lovell stating, "[This item] was flown on the first journey to the moon on December 21, 1968 on board the Apollo 8 Spacecraft."
