Apollo 8 Flown Heat Shield Segments in Full Capsule-Shaped Acrylic Display from North American Rockwell. A 3" tall x 3.5" diameter conical display containing four charred segments of heat shield material flown on this landmark mission. The design on the top includes an Apollo 8 insignia and the text: "Apollo Flight/ First Manned Lunar/ Spacecraft 103/ 12-21-68 to 12-27-68/ Space Division/ North American Rockwell". On the bottom are three triangular-shaped foil segments that might possibly be flown Kapton. The text there reads: "Apollo/ 8/ Moon Mission/ Dec.21 thru Dec. 27/ 1968/ 1st Manned Spacecraft to/ Leave Earth Gravitation Field/ and Orbit Moon/ Re-Entry Speed 24,600 M.P.H./ Temp. of H/S Ablator 5000º/ 10 Orbits of Moon/ -North American Rockwell-". A rare piece, the first of this type we've come across. A small chunk of the acrylic has chipped off the top right of the capsule tip, otherwise very fine.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
