    Description

Apollo 8 Flown Embroidered Mission Patch Directly from the Personal Collection of Mission Command Module Plot James Lovell, Certified and Signed. This 3.5" x 3" triangular-shaped patch depicts the mission insignia that Lovell himself designed for this flight; a figure eight with the crew surnames encircles both the Earth and the moon signifying the orbits of both and the flight number. The overall shape was based on the shape of the Apollo space capsule. Lovell has certified and signed on the verso: "On board Apollo 8 James Lovell".

This lot includes a signed Letter of Certification from Lovell stating: "[This item] was flown on the first journey to the moon on December 21, 1968 on board the Apollo 8 Spacecraft."
